Sullivan tops Division III Rankings

Other MHC players and teams in Top 25 Rankings

Feb 18, 2012 - The Generals of Sullivan County Community College move atop the National Poll this week with a record 23-2 and garnering six first-place votes. The Generals are led by Cleanthony Early who is ranked sixth in Individual Scoring with 24.96 points per game. Joining him in Individual Scoring department is Ulster's Christopher Austin who is ranked 17th with 20.18 points per game.

Sullivan's big man duo of Willie Williams and Early are ranked in three catergories. Williams is ranked 10th in Field Goal Percentage making 61% of his shots. Teammate Early is ranked 19th. Williams is also ranked fourth in Rebounds with 14.3 boards per game while teammate Early is ranked 21st. Early is ranked seventh in Blocks department averaging 3.41 blocks per game while Williams is ranked 22nd.

In the Assist department, Ulster's Austin is ranked third dishing out 9.5 per game. He is ranked sixth in the Steals department while teammate Remington Mignott is ranked fourth swiping 4 per game. Ulster's Jean Marcial is ranked eighth.

In Division II, Orange's Ryan McNeill-Moses is ranked 17th in Blocks per game and 25th in the Rebounds department. As a team, the Colts of Orange are ranked 11th in Team Defensive Average limiting opponents to 65.32 points per game. Orange is also ranked 16th in Team Field Goal Percentage.

In Division I, Westchester's Tevin Bracey is second in Assist dishing out 8.5 per game. He is also ranked 15th in Steals department while teammate Shaquille Gaskins is ranked 14th with 3.05 steals per game.

Feb 16, 2012 - Bronx native Anthony Oquendo's game-high 23 points propelled host Westchester past bridge-rival Rockland CC. Mike Braithwaite led Rockland with 17 points in the losing effort.

Westchester wins two big games last week

Vikings upset nationally-ranked Sullivan

Feb 6, 2012 - The Vikings scored two big victories last week. On Jan 31, Westchester upset nationally-ranked (#1) Sullivan County Community College 92-87. On the heels of the upset, the Vikings defeated Mid-Hudson Conference second place team Orange County Community College 79-77 on Feb 2. The two victories boosted the Vikings overall record to 7-13 and 5-2 in the Conference.

Orange defeats Rockland

 

Jan 20, 2012 - Visiting SUNY Orange raced out to a 45-28 halftime lead and cruised to a 79-57 win over Rockland CC Thursday night. Sophomore guard Robert Hueston netted a team-high 19 points for Orange (15-4). Teammate Marian Smith chipped in with 16 points off the bench. Tommie Starkes led Rockland (3-16) with 19 points. Taj Bridgers added 16 points for the Hawks.

Jan 5, 2012 - Sullivan County Community College will once again host the Division III Men's Basketball Championship slated on March 15-17, 2012. Westchester's Bracey tops Assist Category

Dec 22, 2011 - In Division I, Westchester's Tevin Bracey tops the Assist category dishing out an average of 9.4 per game.

In Division III, Orange's Avery West is eighth in the Blocks category with 2.4 blocks per game. The Colts are ninth in Team Defensive Average, allowing their opponents an average of 64.92 points per game. The team is also ninth in Team Field Goal Percentage.

In Division III, Sullivan's Cleanthony Early is second in the DIII in Individual scoring averaging 25.67 points per game. Early is also ninth in Blocks per game swapping an average of 3 per game. Teammate Willie Williams is eight in Rebounds averaging 13.69 boards per game.

Ulster's Jean Marcial, Christopher Austin and Remington Mignott are third, seventh and tenth in Steals with an average of 4, 3.8 and 3.6 respectively. Austin is aslo third in Assist dishing out 9.2 assists per game.

Westchester 1-2 last week

Snaps four game losing streak last weekend

Dec 20, 2011 - The Vikings recorded a win and two losses last week. Last December 13, the Colts of Orange CCC overcame a late 7 point deficit to deal the Vikings their third straight loss 69-65. On December 17, the Vikings lost to Prince George 70-63 at Prince George CC, Maryland before snapping their four game losing streak by beating Montgomery College of Takomka Park 82-72 last December 18.


MHC Teams tops Region 15 DIII statistics

Individual tops region in two statistical category

Dec 13, 2011 - Dutchess and Sullivan are currently one and two in Field Goal Percentage for the Region with 51.6% and 47.7% respectively. Sullivan tops the region in Free Throws making 75% of their shots from the foul line.

In individual categories, Sullivan's Cleanthony Early leads the region in scoring averaging 27.3 points in 10 games played. Ulster's Christopher Austin is fourth with 24.1 ppg while Dutchess' Ronnell Epps is fifth with 20.5 ppg. Early's teammate Willie Williams tops the region in field goal percentage making 68.5 % of his shots while Early is second with 66.5%. Epps is fourth with 56.9%. Mike Smith of Westchester leads Division I making 63.3 percent of his shots. Epps is second in Free Throw percentage making 78.8% of his foul shot. Early is third with 78.6%.

In the Rebounding category, Sullivan's Williams and Early top the region averaging 12.3 and 11 boards per game. Rockland's Michael Braithwaite is fourth with 9.9 rebounds per game. Westchester's Anthony Oquendo leads disvision 1 with 10.2 average.

In the Assist category, Ulster's Christopher Austin leads the region with 9.4 assist per game.

Mid Hudson players dominated the three point shooting category with Dutchess' O'Neill Harvey on top making 60% beyond the arc while his teammate, Jonathan Gonzalez is second with 46%. Austin, Epps, and Sullivan's Marvin Jean round out the top five with 44%, 42% and 41% respectively.

Sullivan still undefeated

Dec. 6, 2011 - Cleanthony Early and Alex Garstka each scored 29 points as the nationally ranked Generals cruised to a 99-66 MHC victory at Rockland. Early also grabbed 14 rebounds.


Orange beats Rockland

Rockland 62, Orange 88

Nov. 29, 2011 - Avery West scored 22 points and collected 10 rebounds as the host Colts raced to a 88-62 victory. Teammate Cody Williams added 18 points and 11 boards for the victors. Taj Bridgers and Jacin Vera had 16 and 14 points respectively for Rockland.


Christopher Austin named NJCAA Player of the Week

Nov. 23, 2011 - Ulster's Christopher Austin have been named NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Player of the Week for games through November 20.

Austin (5’ 8”) directed the Senators to three high-scoring victories last week with his unique offensive talents. The freshman recorded 35 points and 10 assists in a 84-82 win over Hostos CC (N.Y.), adding five steals on defense. Austin put on any even more impressive performance in a 111-107 victory over Rockland CC (N.Y.) with 36 points and 11 assists. Closing out the week with a 98-89 win over Suffolk CCC (N.Y.), Austin put up 33 points and dished out 10 assists. Austin and the Senators fell 109-96 to Bronx CC (N.Y.) Tuesday in their only game this week.


Westchester beats Rockland

Nov. 22, 2011 - Mike Smith Jr. came off the bench and tallied 25 points to lead all scorers in the the Westcos (2-3) victory over host Rockland late Thursday night. The Westcos led 35-32 at the break, however Shaquille Gaskins netted three treys late in the second half which paved the way for the 79-64 Westchester victory. Gaskins along with teammate Anthony Oquendo each finished with 12 points. Ramapo High graduate Taj Bridgers paced the Rockland scorers with 19 points. The Hawks are now 2-6.


Rockland suffers heartbreaking loss against Ulster

Senators outscores Hawks 12-8 in OT

Nov. 17, 2011 - The Hawks suffered a tough 111-107 overtime loss tonight against Ulster County Community College Senators at Eugene Levy Fieldhouse.

With all their starters fouling out, the Hawks were outscored 8-12 in overtime. Rockland's guard duo of Tommie Starks (Bronx, Tidewater Academy) and Jacin Vera (Staten Island, Curtis) led the Hawks with 31 and 26 points respectively. Sophomore Mike Braithwaite (Queens, Spring Valley) added 22 points and 14 rebounds.

The Hawks will travel to Alfred, New York this weekend to participate in the Alfred State Tournament.


Rockland beats Dutchess

Dutchess 86, Rockland 98

Nov. 10, 2011 - Ramapo graduate Taj Bridgers tossed in 23 points to the lead the Hawks past Dutchess, 98-86, in the MHC opener for both teams.


Sullivan places fourth in pre-season rankings

Men's Basketball season starts in November

Oct. 21, 2011 - Sullivan County Community College Generals place fourth in the just released NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Pre-Season Poll. The Generals finish last season with a 30-5 record, winning the NJCAA Region XV Division III Crown while finishing third in the NJCAA National Tournament.
