Orange set to host Region XV Tournament

Orange and Ulster representing Mid-Hudson

Apr 27, 2011 - SUNY Orange County Community College has been selected to host the 2011 Region XV Men’s Tennis Tournament. Region XV has called the Middletown based campus its tennis championship site many times. Most recently, SUNY Orange hosted the 2008 Men’s, and the 2009 Women’s Tournaments. In 2011, Kingsborough Community College looks to repeat as champions. However, Nassau Community College and Ulster Community College are enjoying successful campaigns.

Tournament is scheduled on April 29-30 with 9:30am and 9:00am start time.

May 13, 2010 - Rockland finished second in 2010 NJCAA Region XV DIII Men's Tennis Tournament

The Hawks of Rockland Community College finished second during the recent NJCAA Region XV Men's Tennis Tournament. A number of conference players garnered honors during the said tournament. Rockland's Dennis Ribiakost, who won the sixth singles championship was included in the 2010 Men's Tennis All Region XV First Team. Dutchess' Jarrett Sears and Orange's Russell Scaringi were included in the Second Team. In Doubles, the team of Ian Huxel and Gabe Cansino from Rockland were included in the All Region XV Doubles Second Team.


Apr 22, 2010 - All Conference Team announced. Dutchess' Jarrett Sears chosen as MVP of 2009-10 season

Jarrett Sears, of Dutchess CC was voted as the Mid Hudson Conference Men's Tennis Most Valuable Player of the 2009 - 2010 season. The first singles player was unbeaten with a 3 - 0 record during conference matches.

Dutchess Community College was crowned Champions of the 2009 - 2010 season edging out Rockland Community College as a result of a tie breaker.


Dec 18, 2009 - Former RCC Coach Joe Famellete to be inducted to RCC Sports Hall of Fame

Joe Famellette, former Hawks Tennis coach, will be among the six inductees to be inducted to the 2010 RCC Sports Hall of Fame on January 23, 2010. He will be the first RCC coach to be inducted into the Hall of Fame

From 1960-1982, Mr. Famellette coached various sports including soccer, wrestling, bowling, golf, tennis, and women's basketball. He coached the Men's Tennis team for 16 years and compiled a 103-33-3 record. Over the years, Coach Famellette produced over a dozen NJCAA All-Americans in several sports, and eight men's tennis teams qualified for National Tournaments. Joe also started the women's tennis program in 1979 and guided them to an undefeated season in 1981.

Mr. Famellette is entering his 50th year as a professor at RCC.

The ceremony will take place at the Italian-American Club in Haverstraw, NY. The admission price of $50 includes hors d'ouvers, cocktails, salad, pasta, prime rib, coffee, dessert and dancing.

April 26, 2009 - Rockland CC wins Mid-Hudson Conference Championship. Ayman Busat named Player of the Year

Ayman BusatUnder the direction of head coach Rich Meyer, the RCC men's tennis team captured their first Mid Hudson Conference Championship since 2005. The Hawks posted 5-4 decisions against both Dutchess and Ulster to secure the title. The team competed in the 2009 Region XV Tournament which was held at the historic Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing. Rockland finished the season with a 3-2 overall record.

Sophomore Ayman Busat earned Mid Hudson Conference "Player-of-the-Year" honors.


April 15, 2009 - Region XV Men's Tournament will Make History!

The Region XV Tennis Committee is pleased to announce that the 2009 edition of the men's tournament will move to the United States Tennis Center in Flushing, New York. It will mark the first time that the tournament will be held at the site of the historic U.S. Open. Previously, the tournament has been played at the Concord Resort, the Nevelle Grande Resort and Orange County Community College in Middletown.

This year's event will get underway on Friday April 24 with the seeding meeting taking place at 8:30am. Coaches and team are encouraged to arrive early and anticipate delays getting to the center. Following the meeting, play will begin at 9:30am. After Friday's preliminary and semi-final rounds, action will resume with final in all flights beginning at 9am on Saturday April 25.

Suffolk will look to repeat as champions as they took home last season's team trophy
