Dec 3, 2010 -MHC teams participated in Region XV Tournament

Dutchess, Orange, and Rockland fielded players during the Region XV Women's Tennis Tournament held at Suffolk Community College last October 22 - 23.

In First Singles Tournament, Orange's Larissa Griffiths faced Dutchess' Brooke Kaase with Kasse defeating Griffiths in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to advance to the semi-finals where she was swept by Kingsborough's Kate Mospanova, 6-0, 6-0.

In Second Singles, both Stephanie Fischer of Orange and Ava Leischen of Dutchess loss in the quarterfinals against Abby Salembier (Fashion) and Frances Vilk (Suffolk) respectively.

In Third Singles, Jessica Allen of Orange advancing to the semi-finals by defeating Codian Dixon of Dutchess 6-3, 6-4 before losing to Nassau's Laura Healey, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

In Fourth Singles, Dutchess' Valerie Ferrone easily defeated Rockland's Sheina Gallette, 6-0 6-0 to advance to the semi-finals before lossing to Marlene Frederic of Kingsborough 6-0 6-3 who defeated Orange's Claudia Okoniewski in the quarterfinals 6-4, 5-7, 6-1.

In Fifth Singles, Danielle Vernooy of Orange cruised into the semi-finals after defeating Joel Almodova of Rockland in straight sets. Vernooy then lost to Rosalia Xue (Kingsborough) in the semis 6-2, 6-3. Dutchess' Melanie Pereira loss in the quaterfinals to Sonya Wright (FIT) 6-3, 6-1.

In Sixth Singles, Orange's Emily Short fell short of winning the sixth single losing to Suffolk's Alex Sadowski 6-1, 6-4. Short got into the finals by defeating Dutchess' Jessica Segarra 6-0, 6-1 and Nassau's Rachel Tomasulo.

The Lady Colts showed great strides in the Doubles Tournament. Orange's duo of Larissa Griffiths and Stephanie Fischer defeated the duo of Herrera and Salembier from FIT, 6-2, 6-0, to advance to the semi-finals of the First Doubles. While Jessica Allen and Claudia Okoniewski of Orange defeated Codian Dixon and Valeria Ferrone of Dutchess, 6-2, 6-2 to advance to the semi-finals of the Second Doubles. Their teammates, Danielle Vernooy and Emily Short defeated Rockland's Joel Almodova and Seng in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the Third Doubles semis.

Emily Short of Orange was voted into the 2010 Women's Tennis All Region XV Second Singles Team.


Two Mid Hudson Conference Colleges participated in the 2008 Region XV Women's Tennis Tournament.

Both SUNY Orange and Rockland CC participated in the 2008 Region XV Women's Tennis Tournament. The tournament was held at SUNY Orange County Community College in Middletown on October 24. In the Second Singles Flight, Orange's Leanna Mercado advanced to the semi-final after posting a 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 victory over Nassau's Katie Flynn in the Quarterfinals. Jenn Walicki of Orange CC defeated Rockland's Andrea Hamar (6-1, 6-2) to advance to the semi-finals in the Fourth Singles Flight. Orange's Shelby Haberman ousted Nassau's Natasha Gregorio 2-6, 6-1, 7-5 in the Sixth Singles Flight.

In doubles play, the team of Mercado and Gina Marchese upset Fashion's team of Carlson and Osgerchian, 6-2, 6-2 in the First Flight. Meanwhile, the team of Walicki and Haberman advanced to the semi finals in the Third Flight with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Jackie Wein and Courtney Deveau of Nassau.


Two Mid Hudson Conference Players named to 2007 Region XV All-Region Women's Tennis Team and Sportmanship Team

Juri Iwata (Rockland CC) and Kaity Ebert of Orange CC were named to the Region XV All Region Women's Tennis 2nd Team.

Juri Iwata along with Jaimee Martin from Orange were named to 2007 Sportsmanship Team
